You know, people often ask why I named my place Steel Pier Cafe, and that I sell BBQ not seafood. From the time I was a child, one of my first & most fond childhood memories is my Dad taking me to the Steel Pier at the VA Beach Oceanfront. We would park on the beach, go up on the pier, eat hot dogs & get our Coke-a-Cola’s in the little six and half returnable bottles. The Steel Pier is where Dad taught me to tie a fishing hook; we would go fishing, and enjoyed many days together at the oceanfront.

As I got a little older, we would go to the beach and the Steel Pier is the place I learned to surf and hang out. I have many, many happy memories of the beach and being there with my Family.

Dad always said: “son when I retire I want to have a little place at the beach where I can sell hot dogs and pizza by the slice.” So I knew from an early age I wanted to go into the Restaurant business. Maybe not the best marketing idea to name my business Steel Pier Cafe, but I named my business for my Pops.

Now, Dad comes into the Cafe with my Mom, they hang out chat, eat and tell stories about me and the beach.
So stop on by and enjoy our relaxed Family atmosphere, have some great BBQ, sample our other southern fare & enjoy a cold beer or refreshing beverage…
