EVENT DESCRIPTION

We are proud to offer the annual NAS Oceana Air Show, featuring the Navy’s premiere flight demonstration team, the Blue Angels, and the F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team! The NAS Oceana Air Show, which is free and open to the public, is our chance to give back to our military families and our community. Each year, we are pleased to welcome visitors from across the country and around the world to the Navy’s East Coast Master Jet Base, to experience the wonder of flight firsthand and meet the exceptional men and women of naval aviation.

This year’s theme for the air show is Inspire. Educate. Soar! Our theme celebrates the young minds we hope to inspire through unparalleled flight demonstrations and hundreds of interactive STEM education engagements available for all to enjoy during the air show. Inspire. Educate. Soar! also highlights the thousands of local 5th graders who will attend the air show’s practice day during their STEM Education Field Trip on Friday, September 20.

Since 2016, every single 5th grader from all Virginia Beach City Public Schools has been invited to Apollo Soucek field for an exclusive sneak peek of the NAS Oceana Air Show as our performers practice, while engaging with our STEM Laboratory exhibits. This year, for the first time ever, we will also welcome 5th grade students from all Chesapeake Public Schools! This will be one unforgettable field trip for kids across Hampton Roads.

We look forward to shaping the next generation of aviators, explorers, and leaders at the 2024 NAS Oceana Air Show. Don’t miss it!

EVENT SPECIAL NOTICES AND INFORMATION

In order to keep possibly dangerous items outside the flight line, ALL bags will be briefly inspected as you come through flight line entry points and all individuals are subject to search. To keep delays to a minimum, remember that the following items are not permitted on to the flight line and may be confiscated:

  • Pets (other than service animals)
  • Glass containers
  • Bicycles, roller skates, roller blades or skateboards

Authorized Items

All authorized items will be inspected prior to entering the flight line. It is recommended that spectators minimize the number and size of authorized items to reduce the time required for inspection prior to access into the flight line area. The following items are permitted:

  • PCS/cellular phones, pagers and FRS transceivers (may be asked to turn off / on)
  • Handheld portable televisions, radios and scanners
  • Small fanny packs and purses

  • Wear comfortable footgear; the flight line is paved and you may walk long distances.
  • All vendor vehicles will be subject to search.

And Finally………

Please keep in mind that your safety is our primary concern. Remember the following important safety tips:

  • Uniformed security personnel are there to help. Follow all instructions from uniformed security personnel.
  • Very few things on our flight line are soft to the touch; most things are made of metal and have lots of edges on them. Keep your eyes focused in the direction you’re walking and be aware of low-hanging (and flying!) aircraft components.
  • Medical personnel are on call to render assistance to anyone that requires it. Notify any uniformed security person or air show worker if you or any member of your group requires medical attention.
  • Call 433-3103 for emergency assistance, if needed.
