For the people of Virginia Beach, alongside sampling delightful local cuisine and shopping in some of the area’s most fashionable stores, fishing is a popular activity to enjoy. A fun thing to do, Virginia Beach is filled with a strong selection of fishing spots for keen anglers to attack.

From freshwater fishing to deep-sea offerings, there is a fishing package on offer for all types of anglers. You can catch some stunning species of fish, too. The same fish you see in popular documentaries like River Monsters and in the best big bass slots can be caught in this part of the world. Additionally, whether you’re fishing alone or with a team of loved ones, you’re likely to have memories to share as you aim to bring in some big catches.

Not everyone is necessarily aware of the best spots to fish in Virginia Beach, though. So, without further ado, let’s take a brief look at some of the top fishing places to try your luck today.

Back Bay

Found just behind the oceanfront, Back Bay is one of the most picturesque locations you can experience in Virginia Beach. Also famed for its quiet, peaceful waters, you’re likely to pull in largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish in this popular fishing haven. You might even see fellow anglers attempting to bring in fish from a kayak, something you could try yourself. Overall, Back Bay’s fishing offering is a strong one, although it probably isn’t for novices.

Munden Point Park

One of the most highly-rated spots in the Virginia Beach area, Munden Point Park is a brilliant freshwater spot that is home to an abundance of species. Probably the most common fish you’re likely to hook are large catfish, particularly in the winter months. Throughout the year, though, you can catch a huge selection of fish in this well-liked destination among the fishing fraternity in Virginia Beach.

Rudee Inlet

A place where you’re likely to see other anglers attempting to catch a diverse range of fish, Rudee Inlet is one of Fisherman’s Wharf’s very best spots. Chances of landing flounder, sheepshead, and striped bass are high, although you could also encounter a large variety of other species. Once you’re there, you might even fancy going on a fishing charter, while there is also an opportunity to rent boats and rely on the expertise of highly skilled guides. Situated along the southern end of the Virginia Beach oceanfront, Rudee Inlet is definitely worth a visit.

Virginia Beach Fishing Pier

Fishing off the pier is great, especially if you want variety. A family-friendly location where you can land big croaker and king mackerel, plus an extensive selection of other species; finding a comfortable spot on the pier and casting any stresses away is a wonderful activity to sample. You might even see some sharks while you’re there, although it depends on the time of the year and the local reports. As such, it’s probably worth conducting some research before you go in order to see which fish are biting, but overall, you’ll definitely have something to catch at Virginia Beach Fishing Pier.

Tidewater Community College

A great place to fish, Tidewater Community College is home to some of the biggest bass you’ll find in the area. Although you can only fish there in the day, it’s a place numerous anglers regard as somewhat of a hidden gem in the local area. It’s worth noting that you’ll have to be aware of snakes while you’re there, though, but it’s a risk that is definitely worth taking given the large bass you’re likely to come up against.
