Many beach cities shut down for the fall and winter seasons, but we’re here to tell you the best beach city never closes the door: Virginia Beach rocks with adventures and events all year long. Check out this inviting and surprising tour of the four beautiful seasons of Virginia Beach.

Summer Season in Virginia Beach

Of course, summertime at the beach is fun in a big way, as the weather is perfect for outdoor delights in sightseeing, eating and overnight stays. The Oceanfront, with many places to explore, may call your name or you may find the adventure awaits in First Landing State Park, where the initial Jamestown colonists arrived (grab your pilgrim’s hat and go!). Of course, the  Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheatre leads the way in musical fare of all genres. Whether you love an electric vibe or just dancing on the lush lawn as the summer sun sets, there is a lifetime memory waiting for you in that extraordinary space. Hungry for a meal or a snack? Virginia Beach is packed with eateries that will suit every appetite. You may have to size up those jeans a bit when you return home, but in Virginia Beach it truly is summertime and the living is easy.

The question of where to stay in Virginia Beach during the summer actually depends on your preferences because everything is on the table for your enjoyment. From a KOA Campground outdoor experience that thrills the children, to a gorgeous beach resort offering all the service and comfort you could want, your stay in Virginia Beach will fulfill your vacation dreams.

Looking for a cozy campsite near the pool or a bungalow with clean sheets on the camp beds? Choose the family campground and soak up the unexpected “adventures” to be discovered while sleeping in a tent (or trying to sleep in a tent). During the summer season, the weather is delightfully accommodating and in the remaining seasons of the year, you’ll want to check the weather and dress appropriately, but a camping experience is for everyone with an explorer’s interest and an open mind. You may have never before strolled to a wood-planked shower room or experienced dirt and grass directly outside your door, but if you like a bit of fun, this is your kind of place. We guarantee your children will like it precisely because it does include swimming, dirt and grass, a family tent, and the walk-to-the-shower experience.

If you are looking for languid summer spa days with skin treatments that rejuvenate or heal, you’ll want to find the best resort choices and make your selections. The lovely resorts in Virginia Beach have enormous swimming pools, poolside cocktail service, easy access to the beach and every amenity one could want. The Historic Cavalier Hotel and Beach Club, Autograph Collection, is a standout among the resorts, with beautiful appointments and spectacular views of the Atlantic. Serving exquisite cuisine and superior beverages, the Historic Cavalier is well worth a visit.

Fall Season in Virginia Beach

What about the fall season in Virginia Beach? Things quiet down a bit; the days become cool and friendly. Leaves turn and streets are less-traveled, but the events and interesting attractions remain in Virginia Beach.  Harvest Fair at the Hunt Club Farm is a perfect fall family outing or you may want to visit the Shore Drive Farmers Market for delicious treats you won’t find anywhere else. The atmosphere during fall in Virginia Beach is less-congested, which makes it perfect for exploring and one of the best ways to do so is found in visiting the area wineries.

The fall season brings the crush at the wineries and, if you are lucky, you can catch the Wine Festival held in Virginia Beach each September. Throughout the fall, wineries offer tastings and wine tours that bring relaxing enjoyment of these golden days. Many resorts offer wine tastings in the fall season and a few even include a lovely charcuterie board to accompany the wines. These experiences offer a rich appreciation for the warmth of an early bonfire and a sturdy merlot to accompany it. Opt for one of the resorts that are the jewels of accommodation in Virginia Beach, as the fall season also brings reduced prices for visitors.

Winter Season in Virginia Beach

Winter in Virginia Beach is decidedly cooler and sometimes you’ll find even a brush of snow, however, the city doesn’t sleep. You’ll find a dinner cruise on a winter evening to be a sparkling surprise of crisp air and water views, while the Virginia Beach Boardwalk along the beach offers amusement parks with multiple children-friendly activities and rides.  The Holiday Lights at the Beach, offered in December, will delight everyone, as enormous lighted scenes over the water create a dazzling show.

January, February and March in Virginia Beach are cool and quiet throughout the city, which means it is absolutely the best time to visit the many attractions offered in the region without jostling with large crowds of visitors. Stop by the Cape Henry Lighthouse as soak up the ambiance of historic significance. The lighthouse was commissioned by President George Washington in 1792 and stands today as reminder of our country’s great beginnings. Whale watching is offered during the winter months, bringing unique memories and days of adventure in chasing those enormous friends of the sea. Hotels and resorts offer low prices during this low season, which is one of the best reasons to visit Virginia Beach in the winter months.

Spring Season in Virginia Beach

As soon as spring season arrives, Virginia Beach shakes off the winter weather with ziplining, farmers markets bursting with fresh produce, and guided kayaking adventures. This is the time of year to enjoy the first-fruits of the city, while exploring the arts and entertainment offerings of the season. Stroll through the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (VMCA) for an extraordinary art collection created by extraordinary artists of multiple genres. The Virginia Beach Art Center is family-focused and packed with educational and informative exhibits, as well as hands-on activities for the family. Check local newspapers or event advertisements for street fairs, casual art shows and other events that can brighten your visit.

As spring turns to summer once again, the four seasons of Virginia Beach remind us that this city is alive with a “welcome home” sign out any time of the year. Here’s hoping your own Virginia Beach adventure begins soon!
