Virginia Beach is a wonderful place to visit at any time of the year but September is a great time to visit. The large tourism crowds have died down and the locals start to come back to the beach to take advantage of the end-of-season events and festivals.
One reason why there seems to be more to do in September than in August each year is because the weather is great. Fall is around the corner and the cooler days and nights are a nice treat from the dog days of summer.
Here are some of the things you can do in Virginia Beach in September to make the most out of your trip.
American Music Festival
In one word… AMAZING! This festival has it all. Mostly based around music, this event spans the entire boardwalk on every stage and park that is available. You can come at see some of the best vocalists and international music stars inthe industry all on one stage. The 5th Street Stage is where all of the big names play but there are plenty of other stages where you can catch some great lineups.

Rock & Roll Half Marathon
This isn’t just a race, it is a party with a half-marathon as a side event. The entire oceanfront is buzzing with activity as thousands of people flock to the oceanfront to compete or simply enjoy themselves in a half marathon. After the marathon is over, the party begins. Tents are all over the beachfront sand and music can be heard everywhere. Come along for the ride as a wave of fun and celebration completely envelopes the oceanfront boardwalk for one of the final times of the year!
Boardwalk Weekend
September is still the time of warm weather but by the time September rolls around the weather isn’t too hot and isn’t too cold. It is the perfect time to enjoy the sun and take a stroll down the Virginia Beach Boardwalk where you will find a variety of shops, restaurants, and vendors along with the wonderful beach sands and waters. This is what the Virginia Beach Boardwalk Weekend is all about. Three stages (17th Street Stage/Park, 24th Street Stage/Park and 31st Street Stage/Park) all have musical lineups all weekend and the boardwalk is set up with tents and shops and food as far as the eye can see. Just come and walk up and down the boardwalk and absorb the festival atmosphere. What a great way to end the summer.
Neptune’s Fall Wine Festival
One of the last great wine festivals of the year in Virginia Beach. This festival takes place at 31st Street Stage/Park and includes some of the best wines by some of Virginia’s leading vineyards. Come enjoy the sounds of live music under the gaze of King Neptune himself and stretch out on the grass and enjoy the day. It is one of the most relaxing events of the fall season.
