Skip the holidays and relax on the beach

Although the traditional image of Christmas is a decorated house and hot cups of cocoa by a roaring fire, not everyone likes to stay home during the holidays. The festive season can be a busy, stressful time, and almost everywhere, from small towns to big cities, gets crowded and full of holidaymakers over the Christmas period.

While spending quality time with family might work for some, for others the perfect holiday season is the chance to get away from normal life and relax. To banish cares and do absolutely nothing (except possibly turn over every hour to get a perfect tan). To see the world on one of the top cruise lines or jet off to an exotic location for a couple of weeks to surf, scuba dive, or just de-stress.

If this sounds like you, then read on for some of the best places around Virginia Beach where you can skip the holidays and relax in comfort, style, and luxury

Virginia Beach

If you’re looking for a beach destination close to home, Virginia Beach is a great option. With its wide beachfront and classic American charm, this small city offers everything you need for a relaxing getaway – from family-friendly boardwalks to beachfront spas and gourmet restaurants. The seaside town is small enough to feel cozy and inviting, but big enough to offer plenty of activities like surfing, parasailing, and kayaking for those who need a little more excitement.

Cape Henry Lighthouse

Just north of Virginia Beach lies the Colonial-era site Cape Henry Lighthouse. This historic lighthouse is a great spot to take a moment to just enjoy the sea views and take note of the boats coming in and out of the harbor. There are plenty of hiking trails and outdoor activities in the area around the lighthouse, like bird watching and beachcombing. Take a leisurely stroll along the beach to explore the ruins of the old Fort Story, or take a boat ride around the harbor for a unique perspective of the lighthouse and the wildlife in the area.

Chincoteague

Located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, Chincoteague is a charming island community home to about 4,000. The island boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in Virginia, with white sands, crystal-clear water, and a huge variety of beach activities to keep you entertained. Take a kayak tour of the nearby Assateague Island National Seashore and Wildlife Refuge, where you can see the famous wild ponies, or explore the charming villages and downtown area of Chincoteague.

Virginia Beach Boardwalk

At the southern end of Virginia Beach town, the Virginia Beach boardwalk is a charming, retro spot extending for almost three miles along the coastline. The boardwalk plays host to some of the best restaurants and boutique stores in the city, and it is also a delightful place to simply stroll along, taking in the lovely ambiance of this exquisite part of the world.

So, if you’re looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, why not check out one of these excellent destinations and enjoy a stress-free holiday?
