Grommet Island Park is no regular beach park. In fact it is America’s first 100% handicap accessible park to make certain that every”BODY” can enjoy the beach. The inspiration for this state-of-the art park came from the personal struggles the Thompson family had regarding their son Josh Thompson. Josh a young surfer from Virginia Beach who in late 2006 at the age of 33 was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. When his family went to the beach, Josh always stayed behind.
