Q: What is the policy with alcohol on the beach?

Asked by: Rob J.

A:

Ahhhhh… the old alcohol policy question. 🙂

Well, VABEACH.com has written an informational page about this very subject.  You can read more about the Virginia Beach Alcohol Policy.

The down and dirty answer is…  Alcohol is NOT allowed in any public environment (sidewalk, beach, street, etc..) unless specifically permitted with the city of Virginia Beach and Virginia ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) Board for an event or business.

In other words, you CAN drink an alcoholic beverage that you have purchased at an event or in a bar or restaurant as long as you remain within the boundaries of that event or restaurant.  You CANNOT have alcohol in any public setting that does not have the correct permits and licenses.

Additionally, you CANNOT bring your own alcohol to any event or bar location.

If you want to purchase liquor in the state of Virginia, then you need to visit an ABC Store (Alcoholic Beverage Control).

If you want to purchase beer or wine in the state of Virginia, then you need to visit grocery store, convenience store (ex: 7-11 Store) or a designated beer and wine store (like Total Wine).

So, be on the safe side and don’t ruin your vacation.  Drink your alcoholic beverages privately in your hotel room or in a bar, club, restaurant or authorized event but don’t take it outside into the public or you WILL GET CAUGHT.
