Q: How sunny is the beach in the late afternoon?

Added Details:

Considering its East coast how sunny is the beach around 5 or 6pm? Would we still need an umbrella to shade from the sun? Visiting with kids, is it better to go early morning or late afternoon?

Hi John,

Interesting question.  You must be from out West and not near a beach 🙂

Well, there is definitely still plenty of light on the east coast at 5:00pm and 6:00pm during the summer.  Normally people are swimming all the way until 7:00pm or even 8:00pm in June and July.  In August the sun starts to set around 8:00pm.

Regarding an umbrella, yes an umbrella is definitely a good idea at 5:00pm or 6:00pm throughout the summer.

If you have kids, then visiting the beach during the morning or evening is really your preference.  Are you a morning person or an evening person?  How old are your kids?

I actually have a 5yr old and a 3yr old and we prefer to go in the evening around 5:30pm – 6:00pm and let the kids swim and play until after 7:00pm.  That gets them nice and tired out before they have to go back and get in bed 🙂

Here are the SUNRISE/SUNSET times for the 15th day of each month…

JULY 155:57 AM8:23 PM

We hope this helps answer your question and we hope you…

HAVE A GREAT DAY AT THE BEACH!
