Q: For a handicapped person, can they put up a beach umbrella on the Boardwalk strapped to the railing?

Asked by: Nancy A.

A:

Hi Nancy,

This is an interesting question.  Generally speaking, there are not any known restrictions that prohibit you from temporarily attaching a beach umbrella to the boardwalk railing in order to get out of the sun.  Visitors and residents lock their bicycles to the railing all the time so it really isn’t a matter of obstruction.

The only issue that could occur is if the umbrella were “oversized” or in a location that prevented others from being able to view the beach.  For example, if you attached your umbrella to the railing directly in front of a busy restaurant, they might politely ask you to remove it or please move it to another location so that it does not cause a visual screen to their patrons.

Just be courteous and mindful of those around you and you should be fine. 🙂

We hope this helps answer your question and we hope you HAVE A GREAT DAY AT THE BEACH!
