Hi Nancy,

Technically the answer to your question is “NO”. In order to do something like that you would probably need to get a special event permit from the City of Virginia Beach.

HOWEVER….

I can say from experience that the local authorities and the City of Virginia Beach are not keen on ruining a person’s vacation or causing unnecessary problems for vacationers.  If you have a very small group of people and wanted to do a small ceremony on the boardwalk and that ceremony isn’t infringing on anyone else’s enjoyment of the boardwalk then I very seriously doubt that you would have any problems and I am sure that no one would give you a hard time at all.

It is all about being courteous to the other vacationers.  If your ceremony turns into a “spectacle” and you have loud music, red carpets being rolled out, chairs on the boardwalk that are hindering other people walking by… and so on… then I think you might run into a problem.  Otherwise, you are most likely going to fine if it is kept low-key.

If you would like more information about weddings in Virginia Beach, then you might want to contact the Virginia Beach Wedding Chapel. They could probably do a better job of letting you know what CAN and CANNOT be done at the oceanfront and boardwalk.  They could also help you out on any of your wedding preparations.

We hope this satisfies your question (at least slightly) 🙂

Congratulations on your wedding and as always…

HAVE A GREAT DAY AT THE BEACH!
