Hi Joe,
Interesting question. We asked around and although we cannot find anything that actually specifically prohibits bicycles from being on beach, we HIGHLY DISCOURAGE you from trying to do so. You are ENCOURAGED to use the bike path that is next to the boardwalk.
During the afternoon “prime-time” sun hours, the beach is extremely crowded and it would almost be impossible for you to ride a bike along the oceanfront without running into a beachgoer or causing some major concerns for other vacationers who are running around inthe surf.
Additionally the sand is fairly soft and deep away from the water, so that is almost impossible for a bike to get through.
If you were to take your bike down to the water’s edge in the evening or at night when there are much fewer people walking around, you might be better off and probably won’t elicit any complaints from the fellow beach goers.
This question (along with many others) really just boils down to being courteous to other vacationers. The beach really isn’t meant for bikes. If a single person with a bike rides on the beach, they might not have any problems and no one will say anything as long as they are being courteous and not causing any discomfort to others. If a problem arises or large groups of people end up taking their bikes on the beach, then it certainly affects everyone else and is undoubtedly going to cause a problem and the bikers will be asked to leave the beach area.
We hope this helps answer your question and as always….
